Button Roles

Groups

Tie buttons together so members can hold only a limited number of the group roles at once.

A group is a named set of buttons that caps how many of its roles a member can hold at the same time. It is the "pick one" (or "pick a few") behavior that toggle reactions gave you, but cleaner and able to span multiple messages.

How a group behaves#

When a member clicks a button in a group, Zira adds that button's role first, then removes their other group roles down to the group's limit, all in one edit. The ephemeral reply tells them exactly which role was added and which was removed, just like reaction roles do.

  • Max selections 1 (the default): a clean swap. Picking a color removes the color they had.
  • Max selections N: they may hold up to N of the group's roles; the oldest is dropped when they exceed N.
  • Clicking a role they already hold (in a max-1 group) deselects it.
Premium

A group's max selections is 1 on free servers. Raising it to allow members to pick 2 or more is a Premium feature.

Creating and assigning groups#

  1. On the Groups card, click Add group, name it, and set its max selections.
  2. Open any button's editor and pick the group from its Group dropdown.

Buttons in the same group are linked no matter where they sit on the message.

Groups across messages#

Groups are server-wide. Assign buttons on different messages to the same group and the limit is enforced across all of them, so a "pick one color" rule can span a colors message and a roles message.

Premium

Using one group on more than one message is a Premium feature. A single-message group works on every plan.

Example: one-of-three colors#

Create a group Colors with max selections 1. Add three buttons, each with a single Toggle action for @Red, @Green, or @Blue, and assign all three to Colors. Members can wear exactly one color; picking a new one swaps it, clicking their current one clears it.
